Hi Garret - Have to tell you again, how much I love your site. I have posted your name, and given you credit for the Chinese cookies on my blog (bradweesnerdesign.wordpress.com) and also wanted to share that we make grape pie all the time. I also remember having an appetizer at DC's world class French restaurant many years ago, a dish with peeled seeded grapes, with lump Blue Crab meat and the lightest cream sauce. I cannot duplicate the sauce, and cannot peel another grape trying!! Thanks for such a great site! brad

I love eating adventurously at home! I've been thinking about trying to conquer spaghetti squash this fall, but your comments may have ruined that idea...yikes. I made a grape galette a few weeks back, and it was super tasty. I'd love to try this recipe with the lavender, which is on my to-try list in my kitchen. Yum! Ok, so now I'm intrigued. After 5 years of battling with my first grapevine, it finally decided to bear grapes this summer. But, after weeks of waiting for them to ripen into big, green, gorgeously sweet table grapes, a friend informed me that they would remain little yellowy-pink marbles ... for they were champagne grapes. Which, of course, I then found out did not even make champagne.

Ironically, the only recipe I found on the Internet using champagne grapes was Martha Stewart's. I commend you on your bravery. My response was, "Gack."

Summer's over and my grapes are gone. If they decide to reappear next year, I'll try the galette on your recommendation. Maybe I'll call mine the kismet galette, since a lavender bush is the next-door neighbor to the grapevine.

Oh, Garrett, I have missed you so. Not that this means a whole lot, considering that I only discovered your blog last week after perusing simply recipes and found a link to your "Murderlicious" post. A week later and my other food blogs have been neglected, and if my employer found out how much time I spend on on your site...
Anywho, you have a wonderful talent for combining witty humor, wonderful recipes, and great pictures. Really, I think I may have licked the computer screen once...or twice.

Welcome back, Garrett!

While you were gone, my CSA buddy and I tried a concord grape pie. Similar aversion to the recipe--with a twist of these grapes were Jolly Rancher sweet, why are we adding more sugar? (Also, the time to seed the grapes felt ridiculous.) After letting the pie cool for a few minutes we dared each other to take the first bite.

And then we went back for seconds.

I thought I was the only one who tried recipes with foods that I don't think I like. I want to like everything! What if I go out to dinner with someone famous and the only thing available is eggplant sauteed too long in olive oil and under-done cubes of butternut squash?! I have to have a way to get them down!
