My Most Awesome New Camera

Tuesday, January 9, 2007

So you may have noticed that some of the pictures on this blog have gotten much better. I was lucky enough to get a band spankin' new camera. It's a new Canon Powershot SD600. I've been using it practically every day. It's my love. My new passion. My... precious...

Anyways, it's odd I've become such a little shutterbug. When I started this blog I hated taking pictures of my food, mainly cause they all looked like shit. My pictures didn't even start to look good until Heidi gave me a lesson at the SF Food Bloggers Picnic. Seriously, I mean I was either using bad pictures of my own or ones I found online. Now I'm taking a few real quality shots, one or two I'm considering framing.

However, what really used to piss me off was the fact that when I first started blogging, I knew I could have the best content in the world, but without a picture, people could care less. It's like that scene from Thackeray's Vanity Fair when Rebecca stares into the mirror curling her hair; she realizes that while she's smart girl with wits and intelligence, "She knew she wouldn't get anywhere, even on the streets and alleys, looking like tired maid." A perfect description for a blog without pictures. Like a meal, it has to be pleasing to the eye, not just the stomach; so too with one's eyes and their mind when it comes to any piece of reading.

Anyways, thanks mom for the camera (and thanks dad for the other camera, haha). Thanks Heidi for the quick lesson which has made all the difference. Thank you friends and readers for encouraging me to continue, and looking past the picture to the content.

  4. Andrew - Sadly no, I did not take the banner pics. I made that banner before I really took pictures. Someday when I revamp the site, I'll do something for me.
