For A Cold Night

CAN YOU ALL SAY CHILI!? We can, cause it was crazy cold about a week ago. We like to make ours via the recipe from Elise. I throw in a bit of dark chocolate to get some bittersweet in there. I know it sounds crazy but it works. And of course everything was literally cooked in bacon drippings. I mean, it's chili, it's not gonna be healthy.

We also added a bit of smoked chipotle pepper in adobo sauce, so that we were sweatin' like a whore in church. It's also a perfect way to utilize your farmer's market stash. Yum! We also made some cornbread with jalapeno butter. A perfect meal to fight off the chills!

  2. I look at pictures of desserts all day. I love sugar.

But it is so refreshing to see an awesome bowl of chili. Good, warm, spicy, nice chili. This looks great.

  5. That reminds me of the chili from the Tommy's chain here in Los Angeles. It's my guilty pleasure. I use it as a reward (VERY occasionally) after an especially grueling or depressing day. It comes with its own transparent orange grease protection layer. Order their fries with it on top--yum.

Thanks. I now need to make chili! :) Happy stuff!

  6. hey, this comment isn't related to the chili in this specific posting...but i've noticed in several past entries you talk about using prickly pear juice and such...where the heck do you buy those? i know that somewhere like safeway is probably out of the question, so i'm just asking where you got ahold of some. are they available in the sacramento area?

  7. Dear Someone who is Curious - I got mine at the north Davis Nugget Market.

I know there are a few Nugget markets, I would suggest calling them before making the trip to see if they have them.

The cactuses are also all over california, sometime right along the road. You can get some heavy duty leather gloves, pick some and carve them up that way as well.

  10. What state is the chocolate in and what percentage?
I use espresso in my black beans and a touch of cinnamon. People like it and can never quite place the familiar flavors.

  12. That's funny..sweatin like a whore in church. In years gone by, I actually knew a whore who really would sweat in church. She never could make it through the entire service. She's sweat and run.

WE love chipotle chili's and I want me some of that cornbread. I am glad you are feeling better.
